China's biggest Silk Road summit plans omit Thai leaders | Bangkok Post: news

A worker puts the finishing touch on a 'Golden Bridge of Silk Road' structure outside the National Convention Centre in Beijing, where the New Silk Road summit is to be held on May 14-15. It was believed Tuesday night, but could not be confirmed, that Thailand was invited but Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha decided to bypass the event. The Silk Road summit is scheduled for Beijing on May 14-15, within the Chinese "One Belt, One Road" initiative. The Chinese announcement listed 28 nations who will be represented by their president, prime minister or senior minister. The list included only one leader from the Group of Seven (G7) industrialised nations, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni.
